A heritage landmark reborn

For decades, the Art Deco building at 505 Richmond was a city-owned utility building that most people walked past without a second look. The redevelopment restored the original building and added new residential floors above it. Inside are condo suites, a full YMCA and a large, high-ceilinged common space. The project won major heritage and design awards. Owners love the character it gives them, which is hard to find in a newer building.

Suites and amenities

Many suites have high ceilings, big industrial-style windows and the craftsmanship the developers are known for, including custom millwork, kitchen islands and good storage. There are compact one-bedrooms as well as large multi-level and penthouse suites with big terraces. Residents have a concierge, a fitness area, a party room and a rooftop deck, and the YMCA is right inside the building.

Location and getting around

The building faces St. Andrew’s Playground, so you have green space right outside. It’s a short walk to Queen West’s shops and to the restaurants of King West and Chinatown. The 501 Queen, 510 Spadina and 504 King streetcars are all close by, and the Financial District is a quick ride east.

Buying or renting at WaterWorks

Few buildings in the city have heritage character and a new-build interior at the same time, so suites here tend to keep their value well. Penthouses and suites with terraces are especially hard to find.
